OPI Nail Polish Is Formaldehyde Free!

OPI's nail polish is chamical-free and safe to use unlike many nail polish brands. A couple weeks ago I was getting a manicure and pining over all the supercool colors that OPI has to offer.  For the past few years I've been using the same few nail colors that I've purchased from companies that I know to be absolutely safe and chemical-free.  Though I love my bright reds and pinks, my baby pink and my dark maroon, every once in a while I really want to get a crazy color, but wouldn't dare use a brand I wasn't sure was free of phthalates and formaldehyde, so it was out of the question.  So, sitting in the nail salon, I decided to see if anyone else out there (read: in my facebook network) knew if OPI was chemical-free.

My amazing Aunt Bonnie decided to investigate (and I did a little bit of follow-up).  She called the company and I did a little bit of searching the internet.  We found out that: OPI never used formaldehyde in their formula and in 2006 they reformulated to remove toluene (a hazardous solvent) and DBP (dibutyl phthalate, known to do a wide range of health and reproductive problems).  Yay!

Yesterday I got my first manicure free to choose any color I liked.  I chose gold shimmers!  Here it is:

This formaldehyde-free OPI color looked great on.And if you want to read a bit more on the dangers of these chemicals and about OPI's commitment health and safety and the environment and sustainability, click here and then click on about opi then opi cares or click here or here.
