Pregnancy Week 5
Ok, so I lied...though I didn't mean to. Pregnancy hormones really take over your brain among other things. All week I've been clumsy, losing my word, misstating dates, and forgetting where I put things down. So sorry! Last week I wasn't 2 weeks pregnant, I was 4.
Here's how it works. Because most of us don't know exactly when a baby is conceived, it's really hard to gauge when he or she should be due. Though some of us take ovulation tests or test our basal body temperatures, most of us don't know exactly when we ovulated, so how can we know when we actually conceived? Furthermore, sperm can stay alive for up to 5 days in a woman's body before an egg is fertilized! Crazy, I know. So...The first day of the last menstrual period is when doctors and midwives clock the pregnancy from. Basically, you're pregnant some 2 weeks before you're even pregnant!
A pregnancy is 40 weeks long (not 9 months, I know, crazy too). So, Risa, my superduper aunt/midwife, tells me that today I am 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant!
Here's how I'm feeling this week: TIRED! Oh my am I tired. And food is tasting funny. And I'm not all that hungry, but when I am it hits hard. With Avital I was hungry all the time, but anything would really do. These food aversions are kinda bugging me out, but more so they're just frustrating. I'll be so hungry, then go out of my way to arrange something healthy (which isn't easy with Avi at my legs all day) then I'll eat and and it's totally not satisfying. This new baby is already putting me through the ringer! Still, a new baby, um, yay!
